Fred Cox DC-8 Jet Collection – Lockheed L-1011
Color Scheme: Proposal Colors
Composition: One Piece Aluminum Model
Dimensions: Length: 22″ (58cm), Wingspan 19″ (48cm)
Model Condition: Near Mint
Model History: Produced in the 1960s
by M.M. Verkuyl, Holland. Acquired on January 30, 2006 from my
friend Kees van der Zwaard in the Netherlands. Many
Thanks to my friend Ferry van der Geest for personally carrying
this model from Amsterdam to San Francisco for me. Mr.
Verkuyl was the only model maker that I know of who made a large
scale metal model of the Lockheed L-1011 and what a beautiful
job he did of these! Though Lockheed never flew the L-1011 in
these blue colors, some of their proposal drawings & also
resin/plastic models were also made by Pacific Miniatures in these
proposal colors. For some reason Lockheed
later changed the "House Colors" paint scheme to the
Orange/Red livery which L-1011 Ship One flew in.
