I took these photos shortly after I received this model. It
was originally in CP Air’s Livery. As you can tell, being used
as a Weather Vane in the Cold Canadian Climate took it’s toll
on it. Fortunately, my polisher was able to take away all of this
rust and corrosion and bring back the beautiful shine of the Douglas
Factory Models. There were only 4 major defects that he couldn’t
correct. Two of them were the holes that were drilled into the
fuselage and wing to adapt the model to work as a weather vane.
The other two are gouges in the trailing edge of the wing (see
bottom photo on the right side near the wing tip) which were just
too deep to buff out without adversely impacting the shape of
the wing. I am very gratified that another Douglas Factory DC-8
Model could be returned to it’s original intended purpose – that
of a Beautiful Display Model of The Great Douglas Eight!
